Steppenwolf Theater Company - Overview:

The Steppenwolf Theater Company began in 1976 from an ensemble of actors, many of whom have gone on to international acclaim. Gary Sinise, John Malkovich, Martha Plimpton, Joan Allen, and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Tracy Letts have all spent time in the collaborative. Located in the vibrant Lincoln Park neighborhood on Chicago’s near north side, the theater features a wide range of programming throughout across three stages.

Steppenwolf Theater Company - Theaters:

The Steppenwolf features three theaters. The two main theaters are the Downstairs Theater, which seats 515 and serves as their main stage. I find the heavy concrete design of the theater to be absolutely dreary, but there really isn’t a bad seat in the house and it certainly keeps your attention on the stage.

Their Upstairs Theater is smaller and provides for more intimate performances. Their Garage Theater, which is located a block south at 1624 North Halsted, really is housed in their parking garage. But, it is much nicer than it sounds.
