Soldier Field - Fast Facts

By , About.com Guide

Soldier Field (formerly called Municipal Grant Park Stadium) is located on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago and is currently home to the NFL's Chicago Bears. In 2003, the stadium underwent a complete rebuild. Many residents called the rebuild the Mistake on the Lake due to its odd spaceship design. Thankfully, same of the stadium's original historical elements (like its columns) were saved and are still part of the building's structure. The stadium's capacity is roughly 61,000.

Tailgating at Soldier Field:

Called the Greatest Party on the Lake, tailgating at Soldier Field is a favored pasttime for Chicagoans. One of the only ways to tailgate at a Bears game is to have a parking pass for the South Lot, Waldron Deck or North Garage. And the only way to get a pass is to be a season ticket holder and win a lottery in the offseason. (FYI: In 2004, the Bears banned canopies, open fires and deep fryers from the lots.)

Soldier Field has carved out an area in one of its tailgate parking lots to rent out to the general public. This area can accommodate approximately 100 people and is fenced in. Location is the Adler Planetarium Parking Lot – Western Corner. Cost is $3,000 per game. For more information contact Luca Serra at 312-235-7149.
