Bonus Tip:
Check out these Taste of Chicago healthy eating tips from Chicago author David Grotto, RD, who is teaming up with HERSHEY’S MODERATION NATION to share advice on ways a balanced diet can improve workout performance and overall well-being. Tips include portion controlling snacks and sticking to 100-200 calorie portions; be sure to eat a healthy and filling meal about an hour before putting on your running shoes. A good rule of thumb is to eat a small plate (9” diameter) with a combination of fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and low fat dairy products. Eat a good protein and carbohydrate source within 20 minutes of finishing the race to repair muscles and replenish glycogen stores; and trying an 8 oz. glass of low-fat chocolate milk after crossing the finish line. Dr. Grottos says this drink is full of carbohydrates and proteins that will help replenish tired muscles.
