Abraham Lincoln's Life in Stamps - Rail-Splitter

Lincoln Bicentennial Stamp

© United States Postal Service
In honor of Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday on February 12, 2009, the United States Postal Service issued a series of four stamps featuring the four key roles of his life: rail-splitter, politician, lawyer, and president. You can see all four in this gallery. The artist is Mark Summers.

The official text from the post office that accompanies this stamp reads:

"As a youth, Lincoln split logs for rail fences on the American frontier. When he became a candidate for President in 1860, the Republican Party used the 'rail-splitter' image to enhance Lincoln's appeal to the workingman."
