Chicago South Side Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade - Overview:
Looking for info on the South Side Irish Parade Cancellation for 2010? Go here. This celebration launched in 1979 when two South Side friends, George Hendry and Pat Coakley, recalled their fond memories of the city's original South Side (Southtown) St. Patrick's Day Parade and wanted to recreate it for their community.(The Southtown parade was moved from the South Side to downtown in 1960 and is now referred to as Chicago's St. Patrick's Day Parade.)
Hendry and Coakley's first parade was modest, but it grew into what organizers now say is the largest neighborhood-based St. Patrick's Day parade outside of Dublin.
