Irish American Heritage Center Overview:
Chicago's Irish community clearly made "no little plans" in 1985 when they renovated this 86,000 square foot building into a cultural center. (It's a former elementary school and junior college.)The IAHC's roots go back to 1976 when a group of supporters from the Shamrock American Club wanted to create a place for supporting Irish culture.
The massive center now boasts a library, museum, the Fifth Province Irish pub, a 658-seat auditorium, meeting rooms, and more. They offer a robust schedule of classes, performances, and other cultural activities.
The IAHC is open to the public but memberships are available, too.
