Christmas is a festive time in Chicago and also a festive time at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. The arboretum has 16 miles of trails and nine miles of paved roads. On-site nature gems include Meadow Lake, evergreens, the Schulenburg Prairie, and the following holiday events. Admission is $10 for seniors; $11 for adults; and $8 for children 2-17. Enchanted Railroad - November 25, 2011 through January 8, 2012, daily, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.: The "Enchanted Railroad" rolls through with model trains of different colors and styles. One train even has a tiny camera on board so visitors can see what it would be like to ride along. Nine trains operate via remote-controlled interlocked signals, allowing them to cross tracks safely, and two trolleys that reverse direction automatically.
Holiday Shopping - November 25, 2011 - December 23, 2011, daily, 4 - 5 p.m.: The Arboretum Store has presents for the nature-lover on your list. With more than 2,000 nature-inspired books for adults and children, jewelry, art, and attire, The Arboretum Store offers you the rare chance to give a loved one the precious gift of nature.
Yule Log Hunt - December 26, 2011, 2 - 4 p.m.: Visitors will get a list of clues to lead them to various parts of the Arboretum to look for the Yule Log. Once found, return for a log-sawing celebration, bonfire, caroling by the Frozen Robins singers, and wassail. Dress for hiking and cold weather. All ages.

Breakfast with Santa - December 3, 4, 10, 17, 18, 22, & 23, 9:30 - 11 a.m.: Enjoy breakfast with Santa that includes quiches with fresh baked blueberry muffins, pancakes, and more. Holiday Wreath and Greens Sale - December 2, 2011 - December 4, 2011, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.: Purchase unique outdoor holiday wreaths and container arrangements available in three complementing themes: natural, white, and red. The container arrangements, designed by Arboretum experts, are centered around a 2-3' potted, live spruce tree, which can be planted once the holiday season is complete. Quantities limited.
