Handpicked List of July 4 Celebrations in Chicago and the Suburbs

By , About.com Guide

The skies in Chicago and surrounding suburbs will be lighting for the upcoming July 4 holiday. Here is our handpicked list of where you can see fireworks on Independence Day, as well as Fourth of July parades to watch. And, if you aren't able to see fireworks this Fourth of July, don't worry. Through Labor Day you can watch a fireworks show at Navy Pier every Wednesday and Saturday night. As a reminder: July 4 falls on a Wednesday in 2012.

Important tip: If you have a dog and are planning to take your pet to a fireworks show, please make sure your dog has all its tags on it and is secured to leash. Dogs can be terried of the booming sounds of the fireworks and get run off. Dog shelters say their busiest day is July 5 from all the dogs running away during the fireworks.
