In a historic evening, U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) accepted the nomination of the Democratic party for President of the United States. He became the first African-American to achieve this political milestone and the third Illinoisan to do so. He accepted the nomination on August 28, 2008, which was also the 45th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech. See photos from his nomination to his winning the election.
