UPDATE: Senator Barack Obama won his bid to become President of the United States and came home to Chicago's Grant Park to claim it. This pre-election document about the Election Night rally is being kept up as an archive of the evening's events. U.S. Senator and Presidential hopeful Barack Obama (D-IL) will be coming home to Chicago on Election Night to learn if he will be elected the next President of the United States.

He is throwing an election night event in Chicago's Grant Park. It is less than six miles from his home in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood. Mayor Daley has been quoted as saying he expects up to a million people at the event. You can see photos of the preparations here.

Here are the details of the event:
  • The rally will take place in Grant Park's Hutchinson Field, which is toward the south end of the park. More specifically, according to the Chicago Park District, Hutchinson Field is bounded by Lake Shore Drive on the east, Columbus Drive on the west, Arvey Field on the south and Balbo Drive on the north.
  • Entrances will be located on East Congress Parkway and East Jackson Boulevard.
  • Gates will open at 8:30 p.m.
  • Just in case you're not clear on when Election Night is, it's the evening of Election Day, Tuesday, November 4, 2008.
  • You will need an "official printed ticket" to get in. The Obama campaign distributed these electronically on Monday. There is already a waiting list.
  • Each ticket will be good for the ticket holder plus one guest.
  • Security is expected to be super high.
  • The city recommends that it will not be an environment for "seniors and young children."
  • Do not bring bags.
  • A photo ID will be required.
  • Limit personal items. No signs, banners, chairs, or strollers will be allowed.
