On December 19, 2008, Illinois Lt. Governor Pat Quinn called for the resignation of then Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, who had been arrested on corruption charges. Blagojevich was accused of trying to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated when Barack Obama was elected President of the United States.
On January 29, 2009, Lt. Governor Pat Quinn became the new Illinois governor after Rod Blagojevich was impeached and removed from office.
