On October 24, 2008, U.S. Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) took a break from his relentless campaign to return to Hawaii. He visited his ailing and beloved grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who was suffering from cancer and in hospice care. She died just one day shy of Election Day and discovering whether her grandson had won his bid to become President of the United States of America.
