The First Family grew by one on Easter Sunday 2009 when President Obama made good on an election night promise.

In his Election Night acceptance speech in Chicago's Grant Park, Barack Obama promised his daughters, Malia and Sasha, a new puppy when they moved to the White House.

Bo, a Portuguese Water Dog, arrived wearing a lei. He was a gift from Senator Ted Kennedy and his wife, Vicki. He was about six months old on the date of his becoming a gift.
