Wrigley Field Prepares for the Winter Classic 2009

Winter Classic at Wrigley Field

Jennifer Roche
Wrigley Field's main entrance still looked like a baseball stadium in winter, less than a week before it would morph into a hockey stadium for the Winter Classic.

On January 1, 2009, the Chicago Blackhawks hosted the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL's third outdoor game in history. They played the Winter Classic in the historic Wrigley Field, home of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. The Red Wings beat the Blackhawks by a score of 6-4 in front of a crowd of 40,818.
