From the Taste of Chicago to the Air and Water Show, Chicago's annual events are a key part of what makes the city thrive and alive throughout the year.

Check out the dates of your favorites with this 2008 chronological listing of events.

Chicago Air and Water Show

Saturday, August 16 and Sunday, August 17, 2008
Chicago's premiere zoom and vroom event.

Viva! Chicago Latin Music Festival

Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24
Baile la noche away at the 20th Latin Music Fest.

Chicago Jazz Festival

Thursday, August 28 through Sunday, August 31, 2008
This fest began as a celebration honoring the memory of Duke Ellington and John Coltrane. Now it's celebrating its 30th year. Look for a free "Jazz Week" to proceed the festival.

Celtic Fest Chicago

Saturday, September 13 through Sunday, September 14
The city's Celtic Fest features many aspects of Celtic culture, including athletic events, music, and, in the past, sheepherding demonstrations.

Chicago Country Music Festival

Saturday, October 11 and Sunday, October 12, 2008
The urban cowboy of country festivals moves to Soldier Field this year. Not bad for a festival that began on the corner of Sheffield and Weed Streets on the city's north side.

Chicago Marathon

On Sunday, October 12, 2008, 45,000 runners from all over the world will pace through the streets of Chicago. Make plans to join them as a runner or spectator.
