As mentioned, curator Matt Witkovsky, identified Willem de Kooning's "Excavation" as one of the many works that benefited from the new gallery space. What I also apppreciated about de Kooning's piece was its placement next to Jackson Pollock's "Greyed Wall" (above at right) and Joan Mitchell's "City Landscape" (not pictured.)
Previous to this placement, a viewer could be forgiven for thinking they were all similar. Now, visitors can contemplate the variations among them as well as more richly appreciate each piece's intrinsic qualities.
