I rode up the elevator with about eight guys from the Art Institute's "physical plant" department. Their pride in the place, like everyone I ran into at the Modern Wing, was palpable. When I asked what they liked best, one said, "This side."
What he meant was the west side of the building where Nichols Bridge meets the museum. Terzo Piano restaurant is located there, and the views of the city's skyline, train yard, and museum as well as the sleek, new shape of the rising Nichols Bridgeway are destination-worthy (even if they're a giant hallway apart from the art work).
