Photography curator Matt Witkovsky was kind enough to speak with me about some of the things he appreciated in the new wing. He said he was excited by how the artwork the museum already owned was able to emerge more fully in their new exhibit spaces.
"These were all things you could have seen before," Witkovsy explained. "But, in a chopped up, unlit, stuck-in-the-corner kind of way." Constantin Brancusi's work (pictured here) was one collection he cited as benefiting greatly. Witkovsky also named Robert Ryman's works, de Kooning's"Excavation," and Stéfane Coutrier's triptych from his Seoul series, titled "Monuments."
"What's great about this space," Witkovsky continued, "and I give Renzo Piano credit for this, is that the proportions feel really good. No one will feel intimidated by (the Modern Wing) by any means."
