About the Shedd Aquarium:

Since opening in 1930, Chicago's Shedd Aquarium has attracted millions of visitors who come to the aquarium and marvel at its collection of marine and animal life. Especially popular are the Shedd Aquarium's Oceanarium and Wild Reef exhibit. As the aquarium's Web site says: "We engage and inspire, entertain and inform. We are a vital teaching and learning resource, conservation leader, neighborhood partner and global collaborator. We are passionate about our animals, their habitats and the planet we share." In 1987 the Shedd Aquarium was named a National Historic Landmark.

Shedd Aquarium Hours:

Fall and winter hours are 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. daily. December 19 - December 23, as well as December 26 through December 30, the aquarium had extended holiday hours: 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. (Ticket sales end at 8:15 p.m.)

Shedd Aquarium Location:

The Shedd Aquarium is located on Chicago's Museum Campus at 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive. The aquarium's phone number is 312-939-2438. Tip: Use public transportation to get to the Shedd Aquarium and save on parking. If you do drive, exit 18th Street off of Lake Shore Drive. Shedd Aquarium Admission Prices:

General admission to the Shedd Aquarium, which includes the Caribbean Reef, Waters of the World, and the Amazon Rising exhibits, is $8 for adults and $6 children (3-11). Other admission prices include a Shedd Pass for $28.95 for adults and $19.95 for children that includes the Abbott Oceanarium and Polar Play Zone in addition to the exhibits included with general admission, and the Total Experience Pass for $34.95 for adults and $25.95 fir children that includes all exhibits plus the 4-D Experience and a ticket to the Shedd's aquatic show. Shedd Aquarium Exhibits:

Exhibits at the Shedd Aquarium include the Waters of the World that focuses on animal life in rivers, reefs, Great Lakes, and oceans, as well as the Oceanarium with beluga whales, dolphins, and seat otters and Amazon Rising that features anacondas, spiders, piranhas, and more. Dining at the Shedd Aquarium:

The Shedd Aquarium dining options including Soundings Cafe open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. serving salads, wraps, and sandwiches, and Bubble Net open daily from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. serving pizza, Chicago-style hot dogs, and burgers, as well as Deep Ocean Cafe in the Polar Play Zone featuring foods for kids such as hot dogs, mac and cheese, and cookies.
