Visit Santa Claus at Daley Plaza in Chicago - 2009 Holiday Season

From Jennifer Roche, for About.com

Visiting Santa at Daley Plaza Overview:

Sometimes visiting Santa at his small holiday house on Daley Plaza was a bit like having a private meeting with a head of state. And, why not? He is the head of the North Pole, and this is his official City of Chicago pad.

One family at a time was ushered in to see him last year, and each child got to spend some time on his knee. He reminded them, quite pointedly, that he loved them. I don't think my kids will ever forget it or the lovely scene under the city's holiday tree and in the midst of Christkindlmarket.

Seeing Santa here is free and open to the public. No tickets are required or purchases expected.

Visiting Santa at Daley Plaza - Tips:

  • The lines for waiting to see Santa have to stand outside, so be prepared for cold weather and bundle up.
  • Some folks last year brought their own hot chocolate or sent one parent to come back with warm spiced wine (for the grown-ups) while waiting.
  • Santa likes taking photos with visitors and he's happy to accept wish lists.
