Chicago's Bike to Work Week 2012 Promotes Pedaling Around the City

About Bike to Work Week 2012:

Presented by the City of Chicago and Goose Island Beer Company, Bike to Work Week includes various events will promote cycling in the city ranging from a planned bike tour in the Loop to a public information session with the Chicago Department of Transportation concerning their plans to make Chicago a world class bicycling city. The week concludes with the Bike to Work Rally in downtown's Daley Plaza. The events are part of Bike Chicago 2012, which promotes the city's cycling culture.Chicago is also set to begin a bike-sharing program in June where people for a fee can rent a bike, ride it around for a certain amount of time and then return it to various bike stalls throughout the city. The bike-sharing program is similar to programs in Toronto and London.

When is Bike to Work Week 2012:

Chicago's Bike to Work Week will take place June 11 - 15, 2012. The week’s festivities will culminate on Friday, June 15, at 7:30 a.m. with a Bike to Work Rally on Daley Plaza (Washington and Dearborn Streets). All cyclists will receive a FREE T-shirt and breakfast, as well as the complimentary Sierra Mist Bike Valet. (Tip: Why not take jump on your bike and take a bike tour of Chicago's famous Old Town Neighhorbood, which is ideal for bikers with its tree-lined streets and historical sites.)

How to Submit a Design for the Bike to Work Week T-Shirt:

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events and Goose Island Beer Company will be soliciting input from the public on the 2012 Bike Chicago t-shirt design. Beginning, April 2 and ending April 26, three designs will be posted on Facebook (Bike Chicago) and online with a link allowing fans to vote on their favorite design. The winning design will be announced on April 26.

About the Bike to Work Rally:

End Bike to Work Week on June 15, 2012 with the City of Chicago and Goose Island 312 at the rally to celebrate Chicago’s commitment to being the "best big city for bicycling with a world class bike network that includes more than 110 miles of bike lanes, 50 miles of bike paths and 12,000 bike racks." Join more than a thousand fellow cyclists on Daley Plaza for music, a free t-shirt, breakfast, Sierra Mist Natural Bike Valet and much more.
