With Valentine's Day and other holidays, February is a full of days off from work and school, and fun things to do to celebrate your favorite sweetie or U.S. president. February is also Black History Month.

February 2 - 3, 2014: Free Admission to the Shedd Aquarium - Looking for something fun to do this February? Why not learn about underwater life with free admission, February 2 - 3, 2014, to the Shedd Aquarium, as well as to several other museums, including the Art Institute of Chicago, the Chicago History Museum, and more. Free admission is through the Museums on Us program.

February 8, 2014: Cycle for Survival at Equinox - About half of the more than 1.6 million people diagnosed with cancer in the past year face the challenge of fighting a rare cancer like pancreatic, thyroid, brain, ovarian, all pediatric cancers, and many more. Cycle for Survival is a high-energy, indoor team cycling event that has raised more than $37 million to fund 85 clinical trials and research studies led by Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. And this year about 550 riders will participate in Chicago.

Through February 8, 2014: Chicago Restaurant Week - One popular events this month is Chicago Restaurant Week, which offers diners ways to taste some of Chicago's best food and do so on a budget. Over 200 restaurants serve three-course prix-fix meals at reasonable prices.

February 8 - 17, 2014: Chicago Auto Show at McCormick Place - Considered the largest auto show in the U.S., the Chicago Auto Show takes over McCormick Place with cars from all over the world.

February 14, 2014: Valentine's Day - The year's biggest holiday for lovers takes place on a Thursday. (Interested in the history of Valentine's Day? One of the earliest popular symbols of the Valentine's day is Cupid, the Roman god of love, who is represented by the image of a young boy with bow and arrow. February 15, 2014: Wicker Dog Park Fundraiser at Twisted Spoke - Chicago's notorious beer and whiskey emporium, Twisted Spoke, teams up with Goose Island to host The Wicker Dog Park Fundraiser to help its neighborhood dog park. Toast man's best friend with pints from a donated Goose Island keg and participate in a silent auction bidding war where attendees can test their luck with a 50/50 pot raffle split. All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Wicker Dog Park Fund and park maintenance. Unfortunately, Twisted Spoke is unable to allow pets indoors.

February 17, 2014: President's Day - A federal holiday, all city government offices are closed. Most businesses, attractions, and museums will be open but it is smart to check ahead for any schedule or time changes. Beware: Because kids have the day off from school, places can be crowded. February 23, 2014: Warm Your Heart 5K Run - Begin your New Year’s resolution by running an indoor, single-loop 5K (yes, indoor!) at McCormick Place. Race begins at 9 a.m. Each registered participant will receive a commemorative event tee. Registration is limited to 3,000 runners for this special event. The course encompasses both Hall A and Hall B. The course is USATF certified. The event will be chip timed. Race entry fee is pricy at $57. Proceeds benefit Northwestern's Bluhm Cardiovascular Institute.

Through March 2014, weather permitting: Millennium Park Ice Skating - Ice skating at Chicago's Millennium Park is one of Chicago's most popular winter activities with the rink's skyscraper views, festive music, and charm - the Millennium Park Ice Rink is outside along Michigan Avenue. The 2014 Millennium Park Ice Skating season will run through March, weather permitting. (Find other places to skate in Chicago)
