August may be one of Chicago's hottest months but it is still packed with fun events. There is a street festival each weekend, Lollapalooza at Grant Park, fireworks at Navy Pier every Wednesday and Saturday evenings, and Jazzin' at the Shedd every Wednesday when some of Chicago's top jazz musicians play on the Shedd's outdoor patio overlooking Lake Michigan. Lollapalooza - August 5 - 7, 2011: Lollapalooza's creator Jane's Addiction lead singer Perry Farrell will celebrate the 20th anniversary with a stellar lineup this summer in Chicago, including appearances from Eminem, Foo Fighters, Coldplay, Muse, and Cee Lo Green.
Chicago Air & Water Show - August 20 & 21, 2011: Considered to be the oldest and largest show of its kind in the country, Chicago's Air & Water Show attracts millions of spectators each year and features several high-flying acts, including the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and the Bill Stein Airshows Zivko Edge 540. The Air & Water show also features water-based performers including the Chicago Fire Department Air and Sea Rescue Team.
Taste of Tall Ships - August 11 - 14, 2011: Enjoy four days of dockside boarding, sail aways, and more as four visiting Tall Ships visit Chicago's Navy Pier.
Jammin' at the Zoo - August 26, 2011: The Lincoln Park Zoo is getting ready for their 2011 Jammin' at the Zoo summer concert series. This year's line-up includes Colbie Caillat on August 26.
SummerDance in Grant Park - Through September 18, 2011: This 11-week, free dance series offers an introductory one-hour dance lesson by professional instructors followed by two hours of live music and dancing on a 4,900 square-foot, open-air dance floor made out of 100% recycled materials. Wednesday, July 13, and Wednesday, August 24, Chicago SummerDance moves the Navy Pier Beer Garden. Professionals teach dance moves from 6 to 6:45 p.m. with live music going from 7:30 to 10 p.m.
