A favorite Chicago holiday tradition is without a doubt the holiday window displays on State Street. First created by Marshall Field's in the late 1800s, Chicago's holiday window displays were the first ever done by a department store. Macy's purchased Marshall Field's a couple years ago and is thankfully continuing the holiday tradition.
This year's theme for Macy's holiday window display is seven animated holiday windows (along State Street) that tell the story of how Macy's celebrity-inspired ornaments for its Great Tree, which is on display in Macy's Walnut Room, were created, including ornaments created by Donald Trump, Martha Stewart, and more. (Tip: For the first time ever, an animated holiday window will be located on Randolph Street featuring characters from the CBS TV special, "Yes Virginia.")
Make a day seeing the holiday window displays by also visiting Chicago's Christkindlmarket, which is located around the corner from Macy's at Washington and Dearborn.
