The Summer 2009 issue of Chicago Wilderness magazine reported the good news that the Volo Bog State Natural Area expanded by 32 acres earlier this year.
The bog, which is one of the National Park Service's National Natural Landmarks, is located in the northwest suburbs. I snapped this photo when we took a brief hike through it earlier this summer after a trip to the Volo Auto Museum.
I'll definitely be returning to the lush, natural landscape to explore more of the area and rid myself of bricks-and-concrete scenery for a while. See below for how you can, too.
