Chicago Responds to the Death of Michael Jackson
Friday June 26, 2009

I found myself Googling "moonwalk" last night. I wanted to show my kids a video of Michael Jackson so they could understand why the news of his death was exploding across the media.
Chicago joined in the mass reflection about just what Michael Jackson meant to our pop culture. Find some of the reaction from around the city below, including from his hometown of neighboring Gary, Indiana. His boyhood home, pictured above, was just beginning to be decorated with mementos yesterday afternoon.
- Jim Derogatis (Sun-Times): "One of the most extraordinary rags-to-riches stories ever."
- Post-Tribune (Gary, IN): "We were classmates at Garnett Elementary School located right up the street on 21st Avenue. . . I remember at the sock hops during lunch hour, Michael was always the show stopper. . . He loved the spotlight even then," (Elenora Johnson) said."
- N'Digo: "Our dearest Michael. Our favorite video."
- Greg Kot (Chicago Tribune): "One of the most singular dancers and singers pop music has ever produced."
- What's yours?
