I get why people are buzzing about American Idol winner Fantasia's appearance at the upcoming Gospel Fest, but the group that got penned in on my calendar is Chicago's Acme Missionary Baptist Church choir (pictured above).
They won Best Church Choir in America last year in a national contest sponsored by Verizon Wireless. Their rendition of the hymn "'Tis So Sweet" beat out ten other choirs who had already won regional contests.
Choir director Janet Sutton, who arranged the hymn and led her 45-voice choir to victory, reflected on their achievement. "The City of Chicago has been really wonderful in appreciating and celebrating what we've done," she told me. "The mayor's office gave each of our members a proclamation. Now, we're opening at Gospel Fest, and it's very exciting."

IT WAS SO EXCITING TO SEE JANET ALONG WITH THE CHOIR. I LIVE IN FT. LAUDERDALE, FL, BUT I FELT REUNITED WITH MY ROOTS FROM TRUE HOLINESS COGIC IN HARVEY, IL WHERE JANET WAS CHOIR DIRECTOR. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY PHANOMINAL! IF YOU HAVE A VOICE, JANET WILL BRING OUT THE MUSIC. TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE IN HER LIFE. A DIAMOND IN THE RUFF.
