Viaduct Virgin Mary Defaced with (by?) a Blue Devil

Thursday January 8, 2009
Chicago Virgin Mary in ViaductOh man, someone's not going to like this.

As you may recall, back in 2005, people began seeing an image of Jesus' mom in the concrete that held up the Kennedy expressway. That set off a ton of attention, including pilgrims with loads of trinkets and naysayers with strong opinions.

So, given that the Virgin Mary seemed well monitored, I was surprised today to see that the image had been vandalized and painted with a blue devil. The image/stain has been pretty seriously defaced.

How soon, do you think, until people are out there cleaning it with special solvents? Or, will it just fade away?

(1) Aaron says:

any religious people that pray to a concrete wall need to be brought back to reality. I may not have put a devil, but maybe just a conversation bubble that said, “Stop worshipping a wall.”
