Chicago Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade this Sunday
Wednesday December 3, 2008
What's not to like about a parade where 10,000 motorcyclists drive up Western Avenue carrying toys for needy kids? Learn all you need to know to ride in the parade or enjoy the spectacle of it all from the sidelines.
Whichever way you choose to participate, be sure to bring an unwrapped toy and help make a kid's holiday a little bit brighter. Don't, as my mom likes to say, show up empty handed.

They need to move this parade up a few weeks. Yesterday was a perfect example of how December weather can ruin the best laid plans. I had a group of 10 bikers ready to go, but when the single digit temps and ice covered streets became reality, no one rode. We hopped in our trucks and went to a local place that had a toy drive for local kids. A nice day in November would have brought out many times the number of riders who rode yesterday.
Thanks for this interesting comment. I’m sorry to hear you couldn’t ride but glad you stayed safe. I’ll see if I can get a response from the parade organizers.
Second year in a row for lousy weather and dangerous road conditions. Kept me home again. Move it up to the Sunday before Thanksgiving and they would have a much better turnout. I know the first Sunday in December is tradition but they would double their turnout if it moved up.
I spoke to the parade’s organizers. They are looking into changing the date, but they can’t confirm anything. It’s a busy parade time of year (Thanksgiving, Magnificent Mile), so it’s not as easy to do as it seems they suggest.
I just want to give a donation to Yoys for Tots. Where is the link?
Hi Margie,
I’ve put it online here: Where to Donate Toys and Food in Chicago.
