White Sox Fan Moving to White House

Friday November 7, 2008
President Elect Barack Obama - White Sox FanThe enormity of Barack Obama's win is still sinking in this Friday morning here in Chicago. After an exhausting campaign, the President-Elect returned to his south side home for a while, so the emerging center of world power has come to Chicago, too.

My U.S. Representative, Rahm Emanuel, just got tapped for Obama's Chief of Staff. The city is abuzz as other local names and faces get swept up in the shifting White House vortex of power. My phone still rings with stories over the extraordinary evening in Grant Park.

I've only just now had a chance to consider the ramifications for our sports psyche - Obama is a White Sox fan. I think that's even good for the Cubs fans, isn't it?

UPDATE: After typing that, I went to my porch to get my newspapers, and there is a photo of President-Elect Obama wearing a White Sox cap on page A19 of the New York Times.
