Help for Women Who Need it Most

Wednesday November 7, 2007
The Tribune featured a photo on their Metro section yesterday morning of volunteers scouring a field for the body of Stacy Peterson, yet another woman who may have died at the hands of a man she knew. I was glad to see that one column over Dawn Trice Turner dished out specifics for women in dangerous or hurtful relationships.

The main points are:
    1. Call one of the hotlines now.

    2. You don't have to leave the relationship immediately.

    3. There are more options than you probably realize.

Here are the numbers to call:

Chicago Abused Women Coalition 24-hour Hotline: (773) 278-4566
Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence Help Line: (877) 863-6338

UPDATE: Turner's article has since been archived by the Tribune and is not readily available online. Therefore, I've updated this post to include links to the Chicgo Abused Women Coalition and the Illinois Domestic Violence Help Line.
